Abstract
The study aimed to demonstrate the purity of money in the light of the Qur’an and Sunnah, by highlighting the characteristics of the financial system in Islam, the Islamic approach to earning halal money, and the Islamic approach to purify of ill-gotten money. The study was divided into several sections. The first section discussed the characteristics of the financial system in Islam. The second one highlighted the concept of purification of money in Islam. The third section detailed Halal money and its sources. The fourth section was devoted to ill-gotten money and its sources. The fifth and last section identified the purity methods of ill-gotten money.
The main findings of the study are that the Wise God has tightened the circle of the ill-gotten money, so it becomes an outcast and rejected by common sense, religion and generous morals, as well as it is combated by the strict laws of Islam. This money cannot be rewarded by its owner, so it is not valid for Hajj, charity, or Zakat, or for any kind of righteousness. This is because Allah is good and does not accept anything but good. The concept of purification of money was clarified according to the Islamic thought. In addition, the definition of halal money in Islam, and ways of earning and spending it was also discussed. Ill-gotten money in Islam, ways to earn it, and methods of its purification was given the due attention. The study finally concluded that the financial system principles in Islam are based on moral values which purify the soul from selfishness and self-love, and encourages the desires to gain halal money, through cooperation, interdependence and honest competition.
